It has recently come to my attention that I look extremely young. I am almost 32, recently remarried, and expecting my third child within a month. People are always asking if this is my first, I explain this is my third child and when asked the ages of my other two, 12 and 14, I always get the same response. “You’re kidding! How old are you? Were you 12 when you had your first?” Yes, I was young with my first, 17, but I continue to get carded when I attempt to purchase anything with an age limit.
I walk into the gas station to pick up a couple scratch off tickets, and the clerk asks to see my ID. I happily pull out my license and show proof that not only am I 18, I am actually getting ready to turn 32. The response, “Wow! I never would have guessed you were 5 years older than me! I was thinking more like 5 years younger!” I honestly feel like I need to overdo the makeup and contour my face to look older when I go out in public in order to dodge the pity glances I get from the elderly as they see me waddling through the grocery store! I would love to tell them, “Hey! I’m more than old enough to be pregnant, and for your information, I’m married too! I’m just too swollen to get my wedding ring on!”
How have I managed to keep such a youthful look? It’s a combination of several things. The first, of course, being good genes. My grandmother is well on her way to reaching 90, and she still lives on her own, takes care of my cousin with CP, and also cooks holiday dinners and hosts as many of her children and grandchildren as possible as often as we can make it to visit her. She looks like she's maybe 65. She’s lucky and honestly, I’m lucky to have inherited those genes. There are also various steps that I have taken to ensure my youthful appearance for as long as possible! Come back next week to discover some of my secrets!
