The next and last step in your twice daily routine is your moisturizer. There are several misconceptions about moisturizers out there. As a skin care professional, I have heard many people claim that moisturizer clogs their face up and makes them break out. They also claim that it makes their skin too oily. The truth is, a person with overly oily skin should always use a good moisturizer. Reason being, when your skin is too dry, it causes your body to over produce oil to compensate. This causes a vicious cycle that is hard to break. |
My suggestion is to start with a lotion that is made for oily or acne prone skin. These contain the main ingredients your skin needs to stay soft and supple without becoming overly oily. In time, you will notice that your skin feels like it needs a little more. At this point, you would want to switch to a light moisturizer for normal skin. Ingredients like, collagen and elastin are also great ones to look for to help keep your skin looking young. As we age, the production of these two vital components slows and can sometimes stop. It is very important to start trying to conserve these at a young age. My daughters are lucky enough to have me and my knowledge to get them through their younger years and teach them how to care for their skin. I began to instill in them the importance of taking care of yourself and a daily routine at a very young age. By 10, they were both doing the three step cleansing routine twice daily. Now at 12 and 14, they both have their own individual routine based on their own skin care needs. | |
