How often do you wash your hair? A common misconception is that one MUST wash his or her hair daily. This is a subject that I have heard many opinions on over the years from nonprofessionals and I am here to tell you that it is different for every single individual. We are all different in many ways and our hair type is no exception. There are three basic hair types. These are fine, medium and course. There are also different textures; straight, wavy, and curly. Each different hair type and texture also have different needs. I have heard so many customers over the year complain about how fine and thin their hair is when all reality, they have a ton of hair, it’s just fine. The opposite can also be true. You may have curly baby fine hair or super course yet thin hair. With so many different hair types, no wonder we can’t all follow the same routine. |

As I write this blog post, I am listening to the sound of my new baby's swing rhythmically swaying back and forth. As she naps, she smiles randomly at some unknown wonderful dream and giggles at what I hope is a vision of her mama talking in baby voices and blowing raspberries.
In Part 1, I talked about my good genes, now let's talk about the steps I take with my skin care routine to stay youthful. First of all, I began a regular skincare regimen at age 18. I was in cosmetology school, and we learned how to do these anti-aging nonsurgical facelift facials. I was amazed at the difference they made on fine lines and wrinkles!
They also kept up that appearance if the guest continued to come back and get the services on a regular basis. I wanted to get them so bad, but my instructors refused. They told me over and over again how I was too young, these were only meant for people over the age of 35. My opinion? If I start before I have any wrinkles, I will never have any. Makes sense right? So I combed through the pages of skincare chapters in my book and began doing research on as many different skincare lines as I could.
In this final piece to my Pretty Pregnant series, I will share my best, not so kept secret! Last, but definitely not least: the most important tip I can share with you as not only a pregnant woman but a beauty expert in general is this: DRINK WATER!!!!!
I hate when I hear anyone say, “I hate water.” Really? How can you feel quenched or refreshed on a hot day with any other beverage? I seriously have a hard time understanding how it is so hard for anyone to just drink a few cups of water a day! I have a water cup that holds 24 oz. That’s 3 cups! Its pretty easy to get down also. If you can drink 3 of them, that’s all the water you need in a day's time. Then you can go have all your other drinks that you insist are so much better than just plain water! It has recently come to my attention that I look extremely young. I am almost 32, recently remarried, and expecting my third child within a month. People are always asking if this is my first, I explain this is my third child and when asked the ages of my other two, 12 and 14, I always get the same response. “You’re kidding! How old are you? Were you 12 when you had your first?” Yes, I was young with my first, 17, but I continue to get carded when I attempt to purchase anything with an age limit.
I have also seen topical ointments that claim to rid the skin of skin tags, warts, etc. The problem I see with these are skin tags and warts are too very different conditions. Warts are caused by a virus, skin tags are an overgrowth of skin cells caused typically by hormonal changes, thus the reason many women find they appear during pregnancy. I would never want to treat a hormonal issue with a medication meant to kill a virus. Plus, I wouldn't think it safe to use something like that while pregnant as nothing seems to be a safe bet anymore.
In part one, I talked about the acne that plagued my face and all of the ways I tried to get rid of it. I finally get my skin looking fresh and radiant and along comes the patchy blotchy skin! I had worked months to get rid of the pigmentation I had gotten from laying in a tanning bed daily for 2 years straight! Creams, peels, exfoliation, microdermabrasion, you name it, I got it! 4 months pregnant, and it was back with a vengeance. The only difference this time? There is absolutely nothing I can do about it until I deliver and am finished nursing. Almost all lightening products on the market contain one ingredient or another that is unsafe while pregnant or nursing. In this case, I had to relearn how to cover and camouflage the issue. If you’re like I have been during this pregnancy, the last thing I have felt like doing is putting on a full face of makeup to cover up all of my dark spots. I have found a few easy applications to camouflage more than cover!
